Donna has always wanted to help
people even as a young girl growing up in New Jersey. In her early days,
she started sending money to charities to help others with disabilities
and life changing experiences. As she got older, she manned the
telephone to raise money and participated in many walks over the years
to raise awareness and donations to help a number of different
charitable organizations. Never would she believe that one day, her
friends and co-workers would be walking and raising money for her.
In 1995, Donna’s world changed when she sustained a traumatic brain
injury. After many years of occupational, physical and cognitive therapy
along with holistic therapy, Donna began her long journey toward
recovery. Since it took years to find the right doctors and support,
Donna set out to find a way to raise awareness about traumatic brain
injury for survivors and their loved ones.
Donna currently mentors other brain injury survivors as well as speaks
at events to help healthcare workers understand what it is like to live
with a brain injury. Donna’s creation of a green brain injury awareness
magnet that can be displayed on cars, office desktops, refrigerators,
etc. has helped to raise money for survivors. She has also created
marketing material such as pamphlets and tips and distributes them to
people she has met on her journey raising awareness as well as educating
those around her.
Donna’s goal in creating this web site is to raise awareness and help
share her story of faith and recovery. Donna wasn’t given much hope
after her diagnosis of a brain injury; however, her story is inspiring
and Donna wants to be able to encourage others that nothing is
impossible, especially with God on their side. There are holistic
approaches as well as folks that are willing to help – the challenge has
just been finding them – Donna’s goal is to raise awareness and find the
resources brain injury survivors need to enhance their quality of life.
